IGCAR is offering 200 apprentice seats across 18 trades. The category-wise distribution is as follows:

Of the 200 seats, 8 vacancies are identified for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) as per extant Government of India orders: 2 in Fitter (Dwarfism/Acid Attack Victim/Leprosy Cured), 1 in Turner (Specific Learning Disability), 1 in Machinist (Low Vision), 1 in Electrician (Hard of Hearing), 1 in Instrument Mechanic (Specific Learning Disability), 1 in Plumber (Low Vision), and 1 in Welder (Hard of Hearing). For PwBD candidates, disability must be 40% or more.

IGCAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold an ITI pass certificate in the relevant trade corresponding to the trade applied for, as listed in the vacancy table above.

  • Applicants who have already undergone, or are currently undergoing, apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in any Government, PSU, or Private Industrial organization (partially or fully) are not eligible to apply.
  • Candidates awarded grading under the CGPA system must submit a University/Institute-issued certificate converting CGPA into an appropriate percentage.

IGCAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Selection Process

Applications will be shortlisted on the following basis:

  1. The candidate must possess an ITI certificate in the trade applied for.
  2. Candidates are shortlisted for training based on the percentage of marks obtained in their ITI course.
  3. In case of a tie in ITI marks percentage, candidates with a higher percentage in 10th standard (8th standard only for Welder, Carpenter/Wood Work Technician, Mason/Civil Mistry, and Plumber) are placed higher in the merit list.
  4. If there is still a tie in 10th/8th class marks percentage, the candidate born earlier (older) is given preference.
  5. The selected list for each trade is published on the IGCAR website.
  6. All shortlisted candidates must appear for Document Verification; failure to do so results in cancellation of candidature.
  7. Engagement as an Apprentice is subject to qualifying a standard medical examination prescribed by the Competent Authority.

Before commencement of training, candidates must execute a Contract of Apprenticeship. On completion of the training period, every apprentice must undergo a Trade Test; only on passing it is a National Apprenticeship Certificate awarded via the Apprenticeship portal.

IGCAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Documents Required

Candidates must bring the following (original plus one set of self-attested photocopies) at the time of Document Verification:

  • Signed printout of the online application form with a recent passport-size photograph pasted on it
  • Police Verification Certificate from the local police station at the place of residence
  • Date of Birth Certificate/SSC certificate
  • 8th/10th standard mark sheets prior to the ITI course
  • ITI trade certificates (NCVT/SCVT) with year-wise mark sheets and consolidated mark sheet
  • Caste certificate (SC/ST/OBC-NCL) in the prescribed format, valid as on 19-08-2026, if applicable
  • Valid Income and Assets Certificate as on 19-08-2026, for EWS category
  • Disability Certificate for PwBD (above 40%), if applicable
  • Savings Bank Account number and passbook
  • Aadhaar Card of the applicant
  • PAN Card of the applicant
  • Confirmation copy of Apprentice Registration through the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal
  • CGPA-to-percentage conversion certificate from the University/Institute, for applicants graded under the CGPA system, if applicable

No TA/DA is paid for attending document verification or the medical examination.

How to Apply for IGCAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026

  1. Register on the Apprenticeship India portal at https://www.apprenticeshipindia.gov.in for enrollment as an Apprentice. Applications will not be accepted without the unique registration number (e.g. AXXXXXXXXXX) obtained from this portal.
  2. Complete mandatory Aadhaar (e-KYC) verification of your enrollment on the apprenticeshipindia.gov.in portal.
  3. Provide the same registered email ID and mobile number (used during e-KYC registration) in your IGCAR application.
  4. Prepare scanned documents in PDF format before filling the form: (i) Caste/Disability/EWS certificate, and (ii) 8th or 10th class mark sheet as applicable, ITI trade certificate (NCVT/SCVT), semester-wise mark sheet, and consolidated mark sheet scanned as a single PDF.
  5. Submit the application online via www.igcar.gov.in, under the “Opportunities → Recruitment” tab, between 20/07/2026 and 19/08/2026. Only one trade may be applied for.
  6. Check all entered details carefully before final submission — no changes are allowed after submission under any circumstances.

Selected candidates will be provided hostel accommodation on a chargeable basis, subject to availability.

IGCAR Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Important Instructions

  • Candidates should submit an online application for one trade only.
  • Applicants who have already undergone or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 elsewhere are not eligible.
  • Selected candidates must submit a Police Verification Certificate from their local police station at the time of Document Verification.
  • Registered email ID and mobile number are mandatory and must remain active until completion of the selection process; no changes are allowed once registered.
  • IGCAR reserves the right to cancel or alter the number of seats in a trade, or the entire engagement process, without assigning any reason.
  • Disrespectful, aggressive, dishonest, or evasive behavior by an apprentice can lead to termination of the apprenticeship.
  • There is no provision for employment after completion of the apprenticeship training, and candidates cannot claim employment on this basis.
  • IGCAR is governed by special provisions under the Atomic Energy Act, 1962; apprentices are governed by IGCAR’s prevailing rules and the CCS (Conduct) Rules, 1964, in matters of conduct and discipline.
  • If any declaration by a candidate is found false, they will be disqualified/terminated at any stage without notice. Canvassing or personal follow-up to influence selection leads to immediate cancellation of candidature.
  • All correspondence relating to the recruitment process will be published only on the IGCAR website — no individual correspondence will be entertained.
  • In case of any dispute, the decision of IGCAR is final.
