GMCH Eligibility Criteria

Nationality

Only Indian Nationals are allowed to apply. Candidates of foreign nationality are not eligible for these posts.

Educational Qualification

For all four post categories – Senior Resident, CMO (General Medicine & General Surgery), Resident Anaesthetist, and Resident Pathologist – the essential qualification is:

  • A Postgraduate Medical Degree, i.e., M.D./M.S./DNB/M.Ch./D.M. or equivalent in the concerned specialty, as per the Central Residency Scheme
  • The degree must be recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the candidate registered with either the Medical Council of India or a State Medical Council
  • Candidates who have already completed a three-year tenure of Senior Residency are not eligible for the post of Senior Resident

GMCH Age Limit

Upper age limit as on 1 July 2026: 45 years, applicable for Senior Residents, CMO (General Medicine & General Surgery), Resident Anaesthetist, and Resident Pathologist.

GMCH Pay Scale

Senior Residents, CMO (General Medicine & General Surgery), Resident Anaesthetist, and Resident Pathologist holding a PG degree will be paid in the pay scale of ₹67,700/- (minimum pay, 1st Cell of Level-11, as per Schedule Part A of the Pay Matrix), plus Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) at 20%, as per the Central Government Services (Revised Pay) Rules, 2016.

GMCH Application Fee

  • Non-refundable fee of ₹500/-, deposited on the spot at GMCH
  • Applicants applying for multiple posts/departments need to deposit this fee only once
  • The application fee, once deposited, will not be refunded under any circumstances

GMCH Selection Process

Selection is through walk-in interview only. There is no mention of a written examination in this notice.

  • Persons who previously worked at this institute and whose services were terminated on account of misconduct or otherwise are not eligible to apply

Tenure of the Posts

  • The posts are tenure posts; appointments will be made for a period of 44 days
  • If work and conduct are not found satisfactory at any stage, services may be terminated without assigning any reason
  • If Senior Residency is done at any Central Institution/Hospital under the Central Residency Scheme, that period is counted toward the maximum tenure of three years (including previous experience); the maximum period of Senior Residency cannot exceed three years

How to Apply for GMCH Walk-in Interview 2026

  1. Download the prescribed application form from the official website of GMCH
  2. Fill the form completely in the prescribed format
  3. Attach self-attested copies of all required certificates, mark sheets, registration proof, NOC (if applicable), and a recent passport-size photograph
  4. Report to the Establishment Branch-II, Block-D, GMCH-32, Chandigarh, on 20 July 2026, between 9:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M.
  5. Submit the filled application form along with the non-refundable application fee of ₹500/- and photocopies of testimonials, before 11:00 A.M.
  6. Carry original certificates/testimonials for verification
  7. Appear for the walk-in interview at 2:00 P.M. the same day, in Room No. 210, Level-2, Block-D, GMCH, Chandigarh

Important Instructions

  • The number of vacancies may increase or decrease
  • Candidates already working in Government service must route their applications through proper channel and attach an NOC, or a letter requesting issuance of an NOC, from their present employer – applications without this will not be entertained under any circumstances. Selected candidates must submit their NOC within 3 days of the interview date
  • Applications must be in the prescribed format along with all specified self-attested documents; otherwise the candidature will be rejected
  • Incomplete applications, or those received without the required certificate copies, will be rejected
  • Applications submitted in any other format will be rejected
  • No TA/DA will be paid for the walk-in interview
