UP Anganwadi Eligibility Criteria 2026 – Who Can Apply

Only women candidates are eligible to apply for UP Anganwadi Karyakartri Bharti 2026. The minimum educational qualification differs between the Worker and Helper posts. Candidates must be a permanent resident of the same Gram Sabha / Ward in which the vacancy exists – applications from candidates of other Gram Sabhas or Wards will not be accepted.

Educational Qualification

Post Minimum Qualification Maximum Qualification
Anganwadi Karyakartri (Worker) Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent Post-Graduate (merit based on graduation marks)
Anganwadi Sahayika (Helper) Class 5 Pass (Primary level) Graduate (merit based on highest marks)

For the Anganwadi Karyakartri post, merit is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in Intermediate or equivalent qualification. For higher qualifications (graduation/post-graduation), marks are also factored into merit. The merit list is prepared using a grading and CGPA system – decimal points after three places are not rounded up. If two candidates secure equal marks, the one with higher age is given priority. If both marks and age are equal, the candidate with higher educational qualification is ranked higher.

Age Limit

The age limit for both posts is minimum 18 years and maximum 35 years. Age is calculated as on 01 January 2026. High school marks certificate and date of birth proof must be as entered in the online application form. Age relaxation as per UP government rules applies to reserved category candidates.

Residency Condition

This is a strict eligibility condition unique to Anganwadi recruitment. The applicant must be a permanent resident of the same Gram Sabha / Ward (for urban areas) for which the vacancy is posted. Applications from women residing in other Gram Sabhas or Wards will be summarily rejected. For Kanpur Nagar, the notification specifically states this residency requirement is mandatory.

UP Anganwadi Selection Process 2026 – Merit and Priority Order

There is no written examination for UP Anganwadi Sahayika and Karyakartri recruitment. Selection is entirely merit-based, using academic marks. However, within the same merit, a government-mandated priority order is applied. Understanding this priority order is essential because it determines who gets selected even among candidates with equal marks.

Priority Order for Anganwadi Karyakartri Selection (as per Government Order)

  1. Priority 1 (BPL): Widow / legally divorced / deserted woman from the same Gram Sabha / Ward who lives below the poverty line (BPL). If no such woman applies, then BPL woman from the same Gram Sabha who sustains the family.
  2. Priority 2 (APL): Widow / legally divorced / deserted woman from the same Gram Sabha / Ward who lives above the poverty line (APL). If no such woman applies, then APL woman from the same Gram Sabha who sustains the family.
  3. Priority 3: If no candidate from the above two categories is available from the same Gram Sabha, an ordinary woman from the Gram Sabha is selected on the basis of overall merit.

For widows, proof must include a death certificate issued by the Gram Panchayat Officer / urban local body and a certified copy of the family register. For divorcees / deserted women, a legal court order is required. Income proof for BPL/APL status must be issued by the Revenue Department of Uttar Pradesh – an annual income of up to Rs. 46,080 qualifies for rural BPL and up to Rs. 56,460 for urban BPL centres.

One important rule: two women from the same family cannot be appointed as Anganwadi Karyakartri at the same Anganwadi centre.UP Anganwadi Apply Online 2026 – Step-by-Step Process

Common Mistakes to Avoid – UP Anganwadi Sahayika Karyakartri Bharti 2026

Based on the requirements stated in the official notifications for Bijnour and Kanpur Nagar, the following are the most critical errors that commonly lead to application rejection in UP Anganwadi Bharti 2026.

  • Applying from a different Gram Sabha or Ward: This is the single biggest disqualifier. The applicant must be a permanent resident of the exact Gram Sabha or Ward where the vacancy exists. Women from neighbouring villages or wards cannot apply for a post in another area.
  • Uploading non-digital or manually signed certificates: Residence and caste certificates must be digitally signed by the Tehsil authority and verifiable online. Manually signed photocopies will not be accepted.
  • Using income certificates issued by individuals: Income certificates issued by any individual (not the Revenue Department) will not be accepted for BPL/APL classification.
  • Submitting an offline or postal application: No offline application in any form – paper, postal, or in-person – is accepted. Only the online form at upanganwadibharti.in is valid.
  • Not mentioning the correct project/Pariyojana name: The vacancy you apply for must match the exact Bal Vikas Pariyojana project and Gram Sabha. Selecting the wrong project leads to automatic disqualification.
  • Two women from the same family applying for the same centre: Two women from the same family cannot be appointed at the same Anganwadi centre – if found, the application will be cancelled.
  • Incorrect date of birth: The date of birth must match the High School certificate exactly. Any mismatch results in rejection. Age is verified as on 01 January 2026.
  • Missing widow/divorce proof for priority claim: Applicants claiming Priority 1 or 2 status (widow/divorced/deserted) must upload the required legal documents. Without them, the priority claim is disregarded and the application is treated as a general merit case.
