Both posts are in Level-2 (GP-1900). As per the notification, there is no provision of community-wise reservation against Cultural Quota recruitment; the selection is open to all candidates. SC/ST/OBC candidates applying against the notification should enclose the necessary certificates for upper age relaxation and future benefit of reservation, subject to their appointment on the Railway.
NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification
(A) Essential:
- Passed 12th (+2 stage) or its equivalent examination with not less than 50% marks in the aggregate for NTPC categories. The 50% marks condition is not required for SC/ST/Ex-servicemen/Persons with Disabilities (PWD) candidates, and for candidates possessing a qualification higher than the essential minimum qualification.
- OR Matriculation plus Course Completed Act Apprentice approved by NCVT/SCVT for technical categories.
- OR Matriculation plus ITI approved by NCVT/SCVT for Technical Categories.
- Candidates must possess the requisite academic and professional qualification on the date of submission of application. Those awaiting results of the final examination are not eligible to apply.
- Candidates must additionally hold a Degree/Diploma/Certificate in the relevant cultural talent for which the notification is issued, from a Government-recognized institute.
Note: Persons appointed to the category of Clerk cum Typist should acquire Typing Proficiency of 30 wpm in English or 25 wpm in Hindi within a period of two years from the date of appointment, and until such time their appointment to this category will be provisional.
Desirable Qualification
- Experience in the field of applied discipline and performance on AIR/All India Radio/Doordarshan.
- Awards/Prizes won at the National level in the applied discipline.

A copy of the Matriculation certificate or its equivalent, or the Birth Certificate, should be submitted as proof of Date of Birth.
Age Relaxation
- Serving Railway employees including casual labour who have put in three years of continuous service, and substitutes who had put in three years of continuous service or three years in broken spells in the Railways: Maximum age – UR: 40 years, OBC: 43 years, SC/ST: 45 years.
- Widows/Divorced women and women judicially separated but not remarried: Maximum age – UR: 35 years, OBC: 38 years, SC/ST: 40 years.
- Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD): Age relaxation of 10 years in the respective communities, subject to production of a Disability Certificate in the proper format.
- Ex-servicemen: The upper age limit is relaxable to the extent of service rendered in Defence Forces plus 3 years, provided they have put in a minimum of 6 months at a stretch of service. Ex-servicemen who have already joined Government service in a civilian capacity after availing this benefit are not eligible for this relaxation again.
- Persons domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from 1 January 1980 to 31 December 1989: Relaxation of 10 years.
NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Pay Scale
The posts of Saxophonist and Western Classical Pianist are in Level-2 (GP-1900). The notification does not specify an in-hand salary figure. Note that as per the conditions of this notification, higher fixation of pay will not be admissible to candidates appointed against Cultural Quota.
NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Application Fee
- For all candidates except those mentioned below: Rs. 500/- (Rupees Five Hundred) only, with a provision for refunding Rs. 400/- to candidates who actually appear in the written examination. The IPO should be drawn in favour of PFA/NF Railway, payable at Maligaon Post Office, Guwahati-781011. Candidates must write their name and full address on the IPO.
- For SC/ST, Servicemen/Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD), Women, Minorities, and Economically Backward Classes: Rs. 250/- (Rupees Two Hundred Fifty) only, with a provision for refunding the same to those who actually appear in the written examination.
‘Minority’ means Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis), and Sikhs. Economically Backward Classes mean candidates whose family income is less than Rs. 50,000/- per annum.
The income certificate for Economically Backward Classes can be issued by any of the following authorities, as per the format given at Annexure-B of the notification:
- District Magistrate or any other Revenue Officer up to the level of Tehsildar.
- Sitting MP of Lok Sabha, for persons of their own constituency.
- BPL Card or any other certificate issued by the Central Government under a recognized poverty alleviation programme, or Izzat MST issued by Railways.
- Union Minister, who may recommend for any persons from anywhere in the country.
- Sitting MP of Rajya Sabha, for persons of the District in which the MP normally resides.
NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Selection Process
Candidates who apply and are found eligible for appointment against the Cultural Quota will be assessed on the following basis:

Key Points of the Selection Process
- There will be negative marking in the written test; 1/3rd of the marks allotted for the objective type question will be deducted for every wrong answer.
- The medium for the written examination is either Hindi or English.
- The minimum qualifying percentage is 40% for both Stage-I and Stage-II separately. Only candidates qualifying Stage-I are eligible for the Stage-II recruitment process.
- Candidates to the extent of only 5 times the number of vacancies, in order of merit, who have scored a minimum of 40% marks out of 50 in the written examination, will be called for practical demonstration and marking of testimonials/prizes. The merit list of the written examination will be the criterion for shortlisting.
- After clearing Stage-I and Stage-II, and on the recommendation of the Recruitment Committee, the candidate will be sent for medical examination at a Railway Hospital, as per order of merit. The final panel will be drawn as per merit according to the marks obtained out of 100.
- It is mandatory for the candidate to be declared fit in the prescribed medical category by the Railway Medical Authority, as applicable for the offered post.
- The Written Test will consist of objective type multiple-choice questions covering General Knowledge, General Science, General Mathematics, Knowledge of General English & Hindi Language, Professional Knowledge, Reasoning, and Aptitude. The duration of the Written Test is 60 minutes, with a qualifying percentage of 40%.
- Assessment of talent will be in the relevant cultural discipline, based on Practical Demonstration and Testimonials/Prizes examination.
- The time and venue of the written test, practical demonstration, and document verification will be fixed by the Railways and intimated to eligible candidates in due course. No request for postponement of the written test, practical demonstration, or document verification will be entertained under any circumstances.
Note: The written examination and proficiency test shall be held at Maligaon, Guwahati.
Free Travel Facility
SC/ST candidates will be issued free second-class railway passes (as and when admissible) to appear in the written examination or practical demonstration, provided they submit valid caste certificates. All other candidates are required to travel at their own cost. No TA/DA/Accommodation will be given to any candidate for appearing in the selection/written test.
NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Required Documents / Enclosures
Candidates must enclose self-attested photocopies of the following compulsory documents along with their application:
- Age proof certificate
- Educational/Technical qualification certificate
- Cultural qualification certificate (Degree/Diploma/Certificate in the relevant cultural talent)
- SC/ST/OBC Certificate, wherever applicable (Annexure-C for SC/ST, Annexure-D for OBC declaring non-creamy layer status)

Additional enclosures required:
- Necessary testimonials concerning cultural activities up to the date of application, along with copies of certificates regarding age and qualification, duly self-attested.
- Two self-addressed envelopes (size 24cm x 10cm) with Rs. 6/- postage stamp affixed on each, enclosed along with the application. SC/ST candidates need not send such envelopes.
- Three copies of recent passport-size photographs duly signed on the front side top – one to be pasted on the application, and two (also signed on top) to be clipped along with the application form.
Only self-attested copies should be sent with the application form; original certificates should be produced only at the time of selection/interview.
NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: How to Apply
The notification does not indicate an online application facility for this recruitment. Applications must be submitted in the prescribed format (Annexure-A) as follows:
- Fill the application in the specific form as given in the notification. Items 1 to 10 should be filled in English only.
- Attach all compulsory enclosures listed above, duly self-attested.
- Affix the required photographs and enclose the postage stamped self-addressed envelopes as specified.

NF Railway Cultural Quota Recruitment 2026: Important Instructions
- The decision of the Northeast Frontier Railway Administration in all matters relating to eligibility, acceptance, or rejection is binding on the candidates, and no enquiry or correspondence will be entertained in this connection.
- Candidates should satisfy themselves that they fulfil all eligibility norms – age, educational qualification, and cultural qualification – from a recognised Board/University/Institute as on the closing date for submission of application. Those awaiting results of the final examination are not eligible and should not apply.
- Spellings of name, father’s name, and other details in the application form must match the original certificates. Any discrepancy can lead to rejection at any stage of the selection.
- Applications without compulsory enclosures will be rejected. Applications without original Annexure-C & D (caste certificate), wherever applicable, will be rejected.
- Applications not as per the prescribed format (Annexure-A) will be rejected.
- Unsigned applications, applications with signature in block letters, or incomplete applications will be rejected.
- Applications will be rejected if the left-hand thumb impression is not affixed, or is blurred/smudged on the application form.
- Applications will be rejected if applicants are found over-aged, under-aged, or if the date of birth is unfilled or wrongly filled.
- An IPO issued before the date of issue of this Employment Notice will not be accepted, and the application will be rejected.
