JTET 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Primary Level (Class 1 to 5)

Candidates must have passed Senior Secondary (12th) with at least 50% marks along with a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed / B.T.C.), either completed or in the final year. Candidates with 45% marks in 12th plus a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (as per NCTE 2002 norms) are also eligible. Alternatively, candidates with 12th (50% marks) and a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.) in progress, or 12th (50% marks) with a 2-year Diploma in Special Education, can apply. Graduates pursuing or holding a 2-year D.El.Ed./B.T.C. are also eligible.

Upper Primary / Junior Level (Class 6 to 8)

Candidates need a Graduation degree along with a 2-year D.El.Ed./B.T.C. (completed or final year), or a Graduation degree with at least 50% marks along with B.Ed./L.T./Shiksha Shastri. Candidates with a Graduation degree (45% marks) and B.Ed. as per NCTE norms are also eligible. Candidates pursuing a 4-year integrated course (B.A. B.Ed./B.Sc. B.Ed./B.El.Ed.) from 12th (50% marks) can also apply, as can those with B.Ed. in Special Education or a Master’s degree (55% marks) with an integrated B.Ed.-M.Ed. course.

Special Education Eligibility

  • Diploma in Special Education (D.Ed. Special Education)
  • Diploma in Community Based Rehabilitation (DCBR)
  • Multi Rehabilitation Worker (MRW) Diploma
  • Diploma in Hearing Language & Speech (DHLS)
  • Diploma in Vocational Rehabilitation
  • Any other RCI-approved special education qualification, with valid RCI registration where applicable

JTET 2026 Exam Pattern

JTET 2026 is conducted at two levels, each of 2 hours 30 minutes duration, in OMR (offline) mode. Questions are objective type (MCQs) with no negative marking, and the paper is available in both Hindi and English. Candidates may appear for Level 1, Level 2, or both.
