CERT-In Scientist-B Eligibility Criteria 2026

Nationality

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A subject of Bhutan, or
  • A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
  • A person of Indian origin migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or specified East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (certificate of eligibility required for categories other than Indian citizens)

Age is calculated as completed years on the cut-off date (17.08.2026). Additional age relaxation of 5 years applies to candidates serving in Government Organizations in the same or allied cadre where prior service would be useful for the advertised post. CERT-In Scientist-B Selection Process 2026

  1. GATE Score Shortlisting: Candidates are shortlisted for interview in the ratio of 1:5 (discipline-wise and category-wise), based on GATE score merit. All candidates with a tied score at the cut-off rank are shortlisted.
  2. Document Verification: Conducted before the interaction/interview. Candidates who fail to appear with original documents are not eligible for further stages.
  3. Personal Interaction/Interview: Maximum 50 marks, assessed on Technical (Academic) knowledge, Presentation/Communication Skill/Comprehension, and Academic performance (0.05 mark per percentage in the qualifying degree).

Minimum Qualifying Marks in Interview

Candidates who do not meet the minimum qualifying marks in the interview will not be considered for the final merit list, irrespective of GATE score.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

  1. Higher GATE paper score ranks higher
  2. If GATE scores are equal, higher marks in the Technical (Academic) knowledge section of the interview ranks higher
  3. If still tied, the older candidate ranks higher

Important Instructions

  • Qualifications through Open Universities/Distance Education must be approved by the Distance Education Council and, where necessary, AICTE, as per Gazette Notification No. 44 dated 1 March 1995
  • Candidates working with Central Govt./State Govt./PSU/Autonomous bodies must furnish an NOC confirming no pending disciplinary/vigilance case
  • No TA/DA will be paid for attending document verification or interview
  • Interviews will be conducted at Delhi or another location/mode approved by the competent authority; no request for postponement or change of location will be entertained
  • Candidates must validate their GATE score on the GATE Results portal on the day of interview/document verification using their own GATE login credentials
