BASU Recruitment 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Nationality and Domicile

The University follows the Bihar Government reservation policy. Reservation benefits (including EWS, 35% female reservation, and fee relaxation) are applicable only to candidates who are original residents of Bihar, subject to submission of a residential certificate.

Educational Qualification – Associate Professor

  • Doctoral degree in the relevant subject, including relevant basic sciences.
  • 08 years’ experience in the relevant subject as Assistant Professor-cum-Junior Scientist/Scientist/Lecturer/Extension Specialist or an equivalent position in Pay Band-3 of Rs. 15,600–39,100 with GP/AGP/RGP of Rs. 5,400/Rs. 6,000/Rs. 7,000/Rs. 8,000, with evidence of contribution to research/teaching/extension education through published work or innovations and impact,

  • Doctoral degree in the relevant subject including relevant basic sciences, with a minimum of 8 years of high-quality post-doctoral research experience in an institution/organization, evidenced by at least 6 publications in journals with a NAAS rating of 7.5 or above.

A basic undergraduate degree in Veterinary Science is part of the essential qualification, as per VCI Regulation 2016.

Educational Qualification – Assistant Professor

  • Good academic record with at least 55% marks, or an equivalent grade of B in the 7-point scale (letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E, F), at the Master’s degree level in the relevant subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from a foreign university.
  • NET is compulsory for candidates with a Master’s degree, along with one publication in a NAAS-rated refereed journal, for disciplines in which NET is conducted.
  • NET can be waived for candidates holding a Ph.D. completed with course work as prescribed by UGC Regulation 2009, provided they have at least two full-length publications with a NAAS rating of not less than 4 as on the last date of application submission. Ph.D. holders without course work do not qualify for NET exemption.
  • Ph.D., if available, shall be preferred.

Relaxation in qualifying marks: SC/ST candidates get a 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%) at the Master’s level. Ph.D. holders who passed their Master’s degree before 19 September 1991 also get a 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%).

Associate Professor

There is no upper age limit for the post of Associate Professor.

Assistant Professor

Maximum age is fixed as per Resolution No. 294 dated 07.01.2016 issued by the General Administration Department, Govt. of Bihar:

Additional Age Relaxations

  • 5 years’ extra age relaxation for Govt. of Bihar employees applying for a higher pay scale (Resolution No. 3/M-63/2005-2374 dated 16.07.2007).
  • No age restriction for existing BASU employees seeking higher posts under direct recruitment procedures.
  • Divyang (differently-abled) candidates of all categories get an additional 10 years’ relaxation in maximum age (Resolution No. 13062 dated 12.10.2017).

Retirement age at BASU is 65 years.

BASU Recruitment 2026 Reservation Policy

  • Reservation is applicable to candidates who are original residents of Bihar.
  • As per the Bihar Reservation in Vacancies in Posts and Services and in Admission in Educational Institutes (For Economically Weaker Sections) Act, 2019, Clause-11, if EWS candidates are not available to the extent of the prescribed reservation percentage, those vacancies are filled from the Open Merit category in the same transaction.
  • 02 posts of Associate Professor and 02 posts of Assistant Professor are reserved for Deaf and Hearing Impaired and Locomotor Disability candidates under the Divyang category (Circular No. 962 dated 22.01.2021 and Memo No. 8962 dated 21.05.2025), applicable only to original residents of Bihar.
  • 01 post of Associate Professor and 01 post of Assistant Professor are reserved for grandchildren of freedom fighters (Circular No. 2526 dated 18.02.2016); selected candidates are counted against the UR/reserved category they belong to.
  • 35% female reservation in each category applies only to original residents of Bihar, subject to submission of a residential certificate (Circular No. 12575 dated 09.07.2025).

BASU Recruitment 2026 Selection Process

  • Selection is based on the candidate’s previous academic and professional record (as per the prescribed scorecard) and performance in the interview.
  • As per Chapter-VII Note-6(iii) of the University Statute, a candidate must obtain at least 50% marks in the interview to be considered in the merit list.
  • As per the directive of the Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resource Department, Govt. of Bihar (L.No. 06/BASU(II)07/2023-4229 dated 13.11.2023), candidates belonging to SC, ST, Divyang category, and female candidates (irrespective of category) need to obtain only 32% marks in the interview to be considered in the merit list.
  • Candidates must produce all original certificates and documents at the time of interview for verification; failure to do so can lead to rejection of candidature.
  • The Chairman of the Selection Committee has the authority to decide the procedure for any matter not covered in the notification, and the Committee may decide its own method of evaluating interview performance.

  2. Fill the application form and the scorecard, mentioning the page number of each relevant supporting document.
  3. Serially number and sign every page of the application form and enclosures at the bottom.
  4. Attach self-attested copies of relevant/desired documents and the application fee bank draft.
  5. Use a separate application form and separate fee for each post, and for each institution (Patna or Kishanganj) applied to.
  6. Superscribe the envelope with “Application for the post of ………, Department/Discipline ……… & Name of the College ………”.
  7. Send the application by Speed Post or Registered Post only to: The Registrar, Bihar Animal Sciences University, P.O: Bihar Veterinary College, Patna – 800014.
  8. Ensure the application reaches the Registrar’s office on or before 31 July 2026, 5:00 PM. The University will not be responsible for postal delay.
  9. In-service candidates must apply through the proper channel; an advance copy with the requisite fee may be considered subject to production of an NOC at the time of interview, and the proper-channel copy must reach within 10 days of the last date of submission.

BASU Recruitment 2026 Important Instructions

  • The prescribed qualifications and experience are the minimum requirement; merely possessing them does not entitle a candidate to selection.
  • The University reserves the right to withdraw any advertised post at any time without giving a reason, to fill or not fill some or all posts, to increase or decrease the number of posts at the time of selection, and to publish any correction/addendum only on its official website.
  • In case of any inadvertent mistake in the selection process, detected even after issue of the appointment letter, the University reserves the right to modify, withdraw, or cancel any communication made to candidates.
  • Canvassing in any form will lead to disqualification of the candidate.
  • No interim queries regarding the test, interview, or selection will be entertained.
  • Any dispute or legal proceeding against the University is subject to the jurisdiction of the Courts in Patna.
  • If documents submitted by a candidate are found fake, or the candidate has concealed a clandestine background, services shall be liable to termination along with other legal action, at any stage – including during the tenure of service.
  • Applications received after the last date, or without complete information or the requisite fee, will be summarily rejected.
  • Selected candidates must submit a service bond on a non-judicial stamp paper of Rs. 1,000/- at the time of joining, committing to serve the University for at least three years (or as per prevailing university rules).
