Candidates must be citizens of India as defined under Article 5 and 6 of the Constitution of India, and must fulfil the following conditions to be eligible for the Stenographer Grade-II post.

Gauhati High Court Stenographer Grade-II Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
The selection process for the Stenographer Grade-II post consists of three stages: Stenography Test, Written Test, and Viva-voce.
Stage 1: Stenography Test

Stage 2: Written Test
Candidates equal to 10 times the number of vacancies (1:10 ratio), who have qualified in the stenography test by securing a minimum of 30 marks, shall be called for the written test.
- The written test will consist of objective type (OMR based) multiple choice questions.
- English Language Proficiency: 50 marks
- Official Language of the State of Assam (Assamese): 20 marks
- Total: 70 marks, duration 1½ hours
- Both English and Assamese language segments are of qualifying nature, and candidates must secure a minimum of 40% marks in each segment to qualify.
Stage 3: Viva-voce
Candidates qualifying in the written test shall be called in the ratio of 1:3, in order of merit in the Stenography Test, for the Viva-voce (10 marks). The final merit position will be determined on the basis of the total marks obtained in the Stenography Test and Viva-voce.
Tie-Breaking Rule: In case of candidates obtaining equal marks (in the Stenography Test and Viva-voce), the one who obtains more marks in the Stenography Test will be given preference. Where the marks obtained in the Stenography Test are also the same, the candidate senior in age will be given preference. The Gauhati High Court reserves the right to fix/alter the cut-off marks in the Written Test and Stenography Test.

Gauhati High Court Stenographer Grade-II Recruitment 2026 Important Instructions
- Merely satisfying the eligibility criteria will not entitle a candidate to be called for the Stenography Test/Written Examination/Interview, etc.
- Candidates have to produce their original testimonials regarding educational qualifications, date of birth, caste, working experience (if any), etc., at subsequent stages when asked for.
- The number of posts may vary on either side at the time of final selection.
- No person who has entered into or contracted a marriage with a person having a spouse living, or who, having a spouse living, has entered into or contracted a marriage with any person, shall be eligible for appointment.
- Admission of candidates at all stages of selection is purely provisional. If a candidate is found ineligible at any time before or after the selection process, the candidature shall stand cancelled without notice.
- The provisional list of candidates, with roll numbers, will be published on the High Court website for candidates’ reference.
- No TA/DA shall be paid to candidates for appearing in the Stenography Test/Written Examination/Interview/Viva-Voce.
- A valid Disability Certificate for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) must be issued by a competent authority.
- Candidates already in Government Service in State/Central/PSU may apply after intimating their employers, and must upload a No Objection Certificate at the time of application submission and a Release Order at the time of appointment.
