BSUSC Contractual Faculty Recruitment 2026: Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

Candidates should have a good academic record throughout, with a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade) at the Master’s degree level. A 5% relaxation in marks is available for SC/ST/BC (Non-Creamy Layer)/EBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of the state, and for physically challenged persons of Bihar; however, both relaxations cannot be combined for the same candidate.

In addition to the Master’s degree, candidates must satisfy one of the following conditions:

  • Qualified the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Assistant Professor conducted by UGC/CSIR or any UGC-accredited test; or
  • Awarded a Ph.D. Degree as per the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016, and thereby exempted from NET; or
  • Registered for Ph.D. prior to the implementation of UGC Regulation 2009, subject to fulfilment of conditions such as award in regular mode, evaluation by at least two external examiners, an open Ph.D. viva voce, publication of two research papers (at least one in a refereed journal), and presentation of at least two papers in UGC/ICSSR/CSIR-sponsored conferences/seminars; or
  • Ph.D. obtained from a foreign university/institution ranked among the top 500 in the World University Ranking (QS, THE, or ARWU Shanghai) at any time.

NET/SLET/SET is not required for Master’s programmes in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by UGC, CSIR, or a similar accredited body.

Only One Bachelor’s and One Master’s Degree Allowed

Candidates are required to fill in and upload details of only one Bachelor’s degree and only one Master’s/Post Graduate degree in the core subject or its allied subjects, as specified by the Commission. For Unreserved and EWS category candidates, the minimum percentage required in the Master’s Degree is 55%, while for reserved category candidates it is 50%.

Age Limit

The minimum age for appointment to the post of Assistant Professor is 21 years, and the maximum age shall not be more than 43 years as on 1 August 2026. Age relaxation is applicable to candidates belonging to reserved categories, in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Government of Bihar.

BSUSC Contractual Faculty Recruitment 2026: Salary / Remuneration

The monthly remuneration for the contractual appointment shall be equivalent to the minimum monthly gross salary (Basic + DA only) of a regularly appointed Assistant Professor at the entry level.

Selection is based on a total of 100 marks, comprising Academic Qualification (88 marks) and Interview-cum-Demonstration (12 marks).

Candidates must convert Grade/CGPA/CPI into percentage using only the official conversion formula/table approved and published by the concerned board or university. Shortlisting for interview is done in the ratio of 1:3, i.e., up to three candidates per notified vacancy will be called for interview, subject to availability of eligible candidates.

Interview-cum-Demonstration (12 Marks)

The 12 marks for the interview stage are divided as follows:

  • Teaching Skills (tested by the Interview Board on the spot, mandatorily video-recorded): 6 marks
  • Interaction with the Interview Board: 6 marks

Marks awarded by the Selection Committee in the interview are final and binding, and are not subject to review or re-evaluation.

Merit List and University Allotment

The merit list is prepared based on total marks obtained from academic qualification and interview-cum-demonstration. In case of a tie, the candidate with higher marks in academic qualification is placed higher; if that is also equal, the older candidate (by date of birth) is placed higher; and if the date of birth is also the same, the candidate whose name appears alphabetically first in the Devnagari script is placed higher. University allotment is done on a merit-cum-choice basis, and no change in preference is permitted once allotment is done. Candidates must join within 7 days of the joining notification, failing which their candidature stands forfeited without any further notice.

BSUSC Contractual Faculty Recruitment 2026: Reservation Details

Reservation benefits under this recruitment are available only to native domiciles of Bihar. Candidates from other states will be treated as Unreserved/General category, irrespective of their caste or reservation status in their home state. Candidates claiming reservation must submit a valid Permanent Residential (Domicile) Certificate issued by a Circle Office.

  • SC/ST candidates must submit a Caste Certificate and a Permanent Residence/Domicile Certificate.
  • BC/EBC candidates must submit a Non-Creamy Layer Certificate along with a Domicile Certificate, both issued by the notified Circle Officer.
  • For married women, the Caste Certificate/Non-Creamy Layer Certificate must be in the name and address of their father, not their husband.
  • EWS candidates are entitled to 10% reservation as per Notification No. 2622 dated 26.02.2019, subject to availability of vacancies. The Income and Asset Certificate must be in the format prescribed under Schedule-I (Form-I) of the said notification, and remains valid for one year from issuance.
  • 4% horizontal reservation is available to Persons with Benchmark Disabilities as per UGC Regulations and the Rights of Persons with Disability Act, 2016. The Disability Certificate must be issued by, or verified/countersigned by, a Government Medical College and Hospital.
  • 35% horizontal reservation is admissible to women who are domiciles of Bihar State (both reserved and unreserved categories), as per Resolution No. 12575 dated 09.07.2025. The Domicile Certificate must be in the name and address of the candidate’s father, not husband.
  • 2% horizontal reservation is admissible to grandsons, granddaughters, maternal grandsons, and maternal granddaughters of freedom fighters receiving a Central Government pension, as per Letter No. 2526 dated 18.02.2016. A Freedom Fighter Heir Identity Card is not accepted as valid proof; a certificate under the prescribed format issued by the District Magistrate (or authorized officer) is required.

Candidates who fail to upload valid reservation/domicile certificates will be treated as General/Unreserved category, and no reservation benefit will be granted at a later stage. Any claim for reservation with errors, discrepancies, or deficiencies shall not be considered valid.

BSUSC Contractual Faculty Recruitment 2026: Important Instructions

  • All educational qualifications must have been obtained from recognised Universities/Institutions in India and/or abroad.
  • If grades are awarded instead of marks, applicants must indicate the equivalent percentage using the official conversion formula and keep the supporting document ready for verification.
  • The CA/CMA field in the Education Section is non-mandatory and should be filled only by candidates qualified as CA (ICAI) or CMA (ICMAI); all others must leave it blank.
  • Caste certificates must be issued by a competent authority not below the rank of Sub-Divisional Officer/Circle Officer, and must be valid as on or before the last date of application.
  • The appointment is purely contractual and valid till the Regular/Backlog appointment of Assistant Professors. The engagement is valid for one session only, with fresh engagement each year subject to screening, performance, and requirement of the university; continuation is not automatic.
  • Considering the limited time available, appointments will be made on a provisional basis, subject to post-joining verification of all documents, certificates, and testimonials.
