Eligibility Criteria

Both male and female Indian citizens are eligible to apply for the BPSSC SI Recruitment 2026, subject to the educational qualification, age limit and physical standards prescribed in the notification.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a graduate degree or an equivalent qualification as on 01-08-2025 to be eligible for the Police Sub-Inspector (General Closed Cadre) post.

Age Limit

The age limit is calculated as on the cut-off date of 01-08-2025, based on the date of birth recorded in the Matriculation or equivalent certificate. The category-wise age limits are given below.

Additional age relaxation is available for specific categories:

  • Bihar government servants seeking promotion to a higher pay scale/cadre, with a minimum of 3 years of regular service, are eligible for a 5-year relaxation in the maximum age limit.
  • Ex-servicemen applying for civil posts get a relaxation of 3 years plus the length of their defence service, provided their actual age does not exceed 57 years as on the cut-off date.

Physical Standards

No marks are awarded for height, chest or weight, but candidates who do not meet the prescribed physical standards will be declared unsuccessful at the Physical Efficiency Test stage.

Pay Scale

Selection Process

Selection to the post of Police Sub-Inspector (General Closed Cadre) will be made through a three-stage process consisting of a Preliminary Exam, a Main Exam and a Physical Efficiency Test (PET).

Stage 1: Preliminary Exam

The Preliminary Exam will consist of objective, multiple-choice questions carrying 200 marks in total.

  • Number of Questions: 100
  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Marking: 2 marks for each correct answer
  • Subjects: English, General Knowledge, Hindi Language Knowledge, Reasoning and Current Affairs
  • Candidates scoring less than 30% marks will not be considered for the Main Exam
  • Candidates equal to 10 times the number of vacancies (category-wise merit) will be shortlisted for the Main Exam, based on Preliminary Exam scores
  • The exam may be conducted in multiple shifts, with scores normalized using the Equi-Percentile Method

Stage 2: Main Exam

Candidates who qualify the Preliminary Exam will appear for the Main Exam, which consists of two papers.

  • Paper I carries 200 questions for 200 marks, with 1 mark for each correct answer and a negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.
  • A minimum of 30% marks in each paper is mandatory to qualify.
  • Based on Main Exam marks, candidates equal to 3 times the number of vacancies (category-wise merit) will be shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test.

Stage 3: Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

Candidates who qualify the Main Exam will undergo verification of height, chest and weight as per the physical standards specified in the notification. No marks are awarded for this stage; it is qualifying in nature, and candidates not meeting the criteria will be declared unsuccessful.

Merit List

The final merit list will be prepared category-wise, based on marks obtained in the Main Written Exam. In case of a tie in marks, preference will be given to the candidate who is older in age. If the age is also the same, preference will be based on higher educational qualification, and thereafter on the alphabetical order of the name (in Hindi) as recorded in the Matriculation certificate.

Medical Examination and Verification

Before final appointment, selected candidates will undergo a medical examination along with character and antecedent verification. The medical examination will check vision, color blindness, hearing ability, stammering, flat-foot and knock-knee conditions, among others. Candidates with stammering or lisping defects will be declared ineligible. Candidates with a pending criminal case or a court conviction will also be declared ineligible. Any adverse report or concealment of facts by the candidate will lead to disqualification.

How to Apply Online for BPSSC SI Recruitment 2026

Candidates can apply for BPSSC SI Recruitment 2026 only through the official BPSSC website within the application window.

  1. Visit the official website of the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission: bpssc.bihar.gov.in.
  2. Go to the “Bihar Police” tab and click on the link related to Advt. No. 09/2026.
  3. Complete Part 1 of the online application: registration with name, nationality, mobile number, email ID, Bihar domicile status, reservation category, gender and date of birth.
  4. Complete the fee payment. A registration number and password will be sent via SMS and email after successful registration.
  5. Log in using the registration number and password to complete Part 2 of the application: father’s/husband’s name, mother’s name, address and educational qualification.
  6. Upload the scanned photograph and signature as per the specified format and size.
  7. Review all details using the “Edit Details” option before final submission, as no changes are allowed after the application is confirmed and submitted.
  8. Take a printout of the acknowledgement on A4 size paper after final submission and keep it safely for future reference.

Note: A candidate can submit only one online application. A single mobile number can be used for only one application. Applications sent by post or any other offline mode will not be considered.

Important Instructions

  • The last date for submitting the online application is fixed and will not be extended under any circumstances.
  • Requests for extension of time at any stage of the selection process (written exam, PET, document scrutiny, etc.) will not be entertained for any reason, including family, personal, medical, fracture or pregnancy-related circumstances.
  • Candidates from states other than Bihar claiming a reservation category will be treated as Unreserved (General) category candidates and must apply accordingly; failure to do so will render them ineligible.
  • The 35% horizontal reservation for women is applicable only to female candidates who are original residents (domicile) of Bihar.
  • Candidates should not make multiple payments for a single application. Application fee will not be refunded once payment is successful. In case of failed transactions due to power or internet failure, the amount will be refunded by the payment gateway within 7 working days.
  • Providing false or incorrect reservation category, wrong date of birth, wrong gender, or any false information in the application will lead to rejection of candidature and may invite legal action.
  • It is not necessary to send the filled application to the Commission, but the registration number must be retained for future correspondence.
  • The entire selection process is expected to take approximately 6 months to complete.
  • Candidates should keep their registered mobile number and email ID active throughout the recruitment process, as all important communication will be sent through these channels.
